Bulky waste is dirt that does not fit in the normal household waste containers, such as old furniture.
Bulky waste should not be placed with the household waste container. You can take it away yourself or have it collected by the municipality. The conditions for collection and disposal can be found via the link below
Finally, you can have larger electrical appliances (white and brown goods) such as a cooker or fridge collected from your home by the municipality. This is free of charge.
Household waste is put in the underground waste container. This container is opposite the entrance to the flat. You need a pass for this. This is in your room or (if you share a household waste pass with housemates) one of your housemates has a pass.
If the household waste pass is missing, lost or stolen, you can apply for a new one via the website of the municipality of Groningen.
Not all rubbish goes into containers. To protect the environment, we ask you to recycle as much as possible and hand in glass and paper separately. You will find blue and green crates in the communal kitchens. This is where glass and paper are collected. These crates should be emptied into the underground containers. The location for the nearest containters can be found below.
In Groningen, waste is separated afterwards. This means that plastic is separated after collection. Glass goes to the bottle bank and old paper goes in the waste paper container.
